HVAC Design

Industrial HVAC goes far beyond comfort cooling. Process machinery, welding bays, paint spray lines and chemical handling areas each create their own specific heat, fume and explosion risk profiles. Chillmasters produces designs that address process cooling, COSHH compliance, ATEX requirements and worker comfort in a single coordinated scheme.

HVAC Design for
Industrial Environments

Industrial facilities demand HVAC engineering that understands the production process, not just the building. Heat generated by laser cutters, injection moulding machines and CNC equipment must be removed from the process environment; fumes and dusts from machining and chemical processes must be captured at source before they reach workers' breathing zones. We design systems that integrate all these requirements.

  • Process cooling design — chilled water and precision DX systems for machinery, laser cutting and injection moulding
  • COSHH dust and fume extraction with capture velocity calculations and LEV design
  • Warehouse ventilation strategy — destratification fans, spot cooling and natural ventilation assessment
  • ATEX zone considerations for areas with flammable atmospheres — equipment selection and zone boundary drawings
  • Full ductwork route drawings to coordinate with structural steelwork and overhead services
  • Make-up air design to compensate for extraction volumes and prevent negative pressure
  • Equipment specifications suitable for industrial environments — IP-rated plant, corrosion-resistant finishes
  • Tender documentation and contractor procurement support across the UK

Engineering for Industry

Process Cooling Design

Machinery such as laser cutters, injection moulding presses and CNC machining centres generate substantial heat that must be removed from the process environment to maintain production tolerances and prevent equipment shutdown. We design chilled water circuits and precision DX cooling systems sized to actual machine heat dissipation, not generic allowances.

COSHH Compliant Extraction

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations requires local exhaust ventilation (LEV) that captures dust and fume at the point of generation before it enters the general workspace. We calculate capture velocities for each source type — grinding, welding, solvent vapour — design enclosures and hoods accordingly, and produce the design documentation required for LEV examination records.

ATEX Rated Equipment

Where flammable vapours, gases or dusts may be present — paint spray booths, fuel handling areas, flour mills — HVAC equipment must be suitable for use in ATEX zones. We identify zone boundaries, specify ATEX-rated fans, motors, switches and controls appropriate to the zone classification, and produce the zone drawing required by the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations.

Full Route Drawings

Industrial buildings are full of overhead obstructions — steelwork, craneways, conveyors, cable trays and sprinkler pipework. We produce detailed ductwork route drawings coordinated with the structural model to avoid clashes before fabrication begins, reducing costly on-site modifications and keeping the installation programme on track.
